Charli Siebert, artist behind Unimaginative

Unimaginative’s Story

“Sanity is the playground for the unimaginative.”

The name was always ironic.

Unimaginative grew from artist Charli Siebert’s lifelong compulsion to make the strange things anyway, to give form to what lingers, what resists disappearance, and what refuses to behave itself.

Over the years, those strange things accumulated. They found their own visual language of bodies, beauty, darkness, symmetry, disruption and defiance.

Eventually, that language had a name: Documented Defiance.

Today, the work lives in two forms: Walled, held in stillness, and Worn, carried out into the world.

The methods have changed since Charli first began exhibiting her digital work in Los Angeles more than twenty years ago. The compulsion hasn’t.

Some things refuse to stay buried. She gives them somewhere outside herself to live.
